CHAPTER NINE

What was happening with Gabriela was similar to what was happening with the Duke of Wiltshire. The story was quite similar. He too had not thought of love or women after the mishap with Gabriela and had buried himself deeper in his work. After declining several dinner events he chose to attend one, that, too, on mainly business terms. The gentleman hosting the dinner event was a very wealthy entrepreneur who himself was working in the same field as the Duke. He had invited the Duke to show a friendly agreement between them to the other business and factory owners attending the party and for themselves; for this reason the Duke had no other choice but to go or it would be bad for his business. Upon arriving there, the Duke was least interested with the many woman eyeing him and hoping he would approach them.

“Well Your Grace, I hope you are enjoying your evening,” Lord Banks, the host of the party said to him.

“Yes, it is a lovely party,” the Duke partially lied.

“That is good. Did I happen to introduce my daughter to you?” Lord Banks asked, moving to his left and giving way to reveal a beautiful young woman standing beside him. The Duke of Wiltshire could not look away.

“Hello, your Grace, my name is Lady Cynthia,” she introduced herself, curtseying.

“Good evening, Lady Cynthia,” he finally said breaking from his trance and bowed.

“A pleasure to meet you,” she smiled enticingly.

“The pleasure is all mine,” he said, trying to remain calm at how attractive she was.

“Well, I will let you two get to know each other, enjoy the rest of your evening, your grace,” Lord Banks said before leaving the two of them by themselves.

The Duke suddenly felt nervous; he had never seen such a beautiful woman and to know she was interested in him, had completely made him lose his senses.

“Would you care to dance?” he asked her, trying to sound bold.

“I would love that,” she said taking his hand.

They danced and chose to sit together and get to know each other. Before he left to go back home, she had already agreed to be courted by him. The Duke of Wiltshire had finally found a woman. Though things had happened quickly between them, the Duke thought very little of it, believing that it was fate for them to have met and the chemistry between them was much too strong to ignore; everything was perfect.

As time went on, the two of them would meet often and share long walks in the garden. She was always interested in listening to what he had to say and he loved that about her. She listened with an open mind and he felt as though she understood him like no other. Weeks went on by like this, until one morning the Duke woke up to an incentive of a different kind. For reasons unexplained to him, he had a strong desire to ask her to marry him just that day.
